currently playing
Walk down the sidewalk,
Staring at your feet,
Wishing my steps were longer,
So by your sides I could keep.
Hold your hand much bigger,
Never wanted mine to grow,
So I could always fit perfect,
Inside your palms just so.
No one loves me just like you do,
No one knows me just like you do,
No one can compare to the way my eyes fit in yours,
You'll always be my father,
And I'll always be your joy.
Lay me on your belly,
Nights when mama wasn't home,
Lightning made me shiver,
And you never let me feel alone.
I tried to match your breathing,
Beating my little heart against yours,
Perfect were the nights we were sleeping,
I never want to end what we are.
'Cause no one loves me just like you do,
And no one knows me just like you do,
No one can compare to the way my eyes fit in yours,
You'll always be my father,
And I'll always be your joy.
One day he'll come on bended knee,
And ask my love away from thee,
And when I give my love to him,
You'll always have a place within.
One day he'll come on bended knee,
And ask my love away from thee,
And when I give my love to him,
You'll always have a place within.
No one loves me just like you do,
No one knows me just like you do,
No one can compare to the way my eyes fit in yours,
You'll always be my father,
And I'll always be your joy.

40 years of bliss
Amy's GardenDear friends -- Just a short glimpse into the party we threw for mama & papa on Sunday, June 28th - forty years after they first wed in Newark, NJ at the Sacred Heart (then) Cathedral. My parents if you didn't know already, are close to my bestest friends, even though I will never tell them - shh! And while it was a little stressful the days leading to the party, I am so glad we were able to pull it off! I will follow up with some details on the easy projects, but for now here is the digital slideshow looping in my head.
xoxo,
Maia
P.S. - I have a new found appreciation for my people and brethren in the Fil-Am community in Bergenfield, but more on that later.

the easiest banner in the world, thanks to leftover marigold legal paper, string and a forgiving laser printer.
the thing I love most about Amy's garden is the outdoor tents, umbrellas and the undisclosed gazebo.
the opposite side: simple centerpiece for the table;
this side: mom & dad's love story, a la Mad Libs style - first table to win gets lotto tickets!
It's a good thing that in 29 years, I've learned how to lie, and lie well to my parents -
they were definitely surprised beyond belief!
(even though mom scolded me and yelled at me minutes before revealing the surpise.)
such a happy and cheery cake a la Christine's Bakeshop: 1/2 Pandaan, 1/2 Mocha
Quick slideshow a la Picasa.
Twelfth of Never - song & dance (yes, my mom MADE him sing the songs before this twirl.)
Not only do I love this idea (borrowed from my bridal shower), but that the silk forsythia arrangement was 'borrowed' from mama's house the night before - sneaky, I am. They are also significant because these flowers were in full bloom when mom first came to the states.
Baquiran/Corrales clan - too many generations to count in this pic, but lovely all the same!

used to...
guilty
In lieu of getting married again (eeps!) - I'll be throwing my parents - with the help of my brothers - a surprise 40th Wedding Anniversary party on Sunday.
And then I see this exciting 'pop-up' and holding myself back from taking an extended lunch break out to BK:
sigh. sigh. sigh.

- don't know why i've not sent out all the invites yet.
- don't know why i've been so incommunicado lately.
- don't know why i feel i've been in limbo the past two weeks.
- don't know why i can't pull it all together lately, but i have to.
all i know is - you/it/they/them/him/her/ours: is on my mind.

'SECRETS OF NEW YORK' EXEC FRAUD
NYPOST.COM
THE chief operating officer of award-winning NYC-TV played a starring role yesterday in his own law-and-order drama when he was arrested for allegedly siphoning more than $60,000 from the station, authorities said.
Trevor Scotland, 38, former No. 2 exec at NYC-TV, which operates city-owned Ch. 25, was charged with pocketing advertising money that should have gone to the city.
Officials said Scotland kept 80 percent of the more than $60,000 that came in between March 2007 and April 2008, while a cohort pocketed 20 percent.
The money came from at least six advertisers, including Miller Brewing Co.
Scotland, who lives in Brooklyn and joined the city station in 2004, resigned last month. He had earned $99,000.
He was charged with one count of conspiracy to commit federal wire fraud, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years upon conviction.
Scotland was a producer of Ch. 25's best-known show "Secrets of New York," about hidden spots in the city and hosted by Kelly Choi, who always appeared in a black, floor-length slicker raincoat.
Investigators said they are working with the department that oversees NYC-TV to "strengthen internal controls."
